Stephen Hawking visits the NBIA and gives public lecture
Stephen Hawking will join the NBIA Simons Program on cosmology and particle physics and participate in the workshop 'Current Themes in High Energy Physics and Cosmology' in August. The Simons Program in centered around the research of NBIA's first Simons Visiting Professor, Viatcheslav Mukhanov, Head of the Theoretical Astroparticle Physics and Cosmology group at the University of Munich. Hawking and Mukhanov shared this year's BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award for their fundamental contributions to the understanding of how quantum fluctuations in the extremely early universe can act as the seeds for large scale structures such as galaxies.
Among the many other distinguished participants in NBIA's 'Current Themes in High Energy Physics and Cosmology' workshop will be Nobel Laureates Gerard 't Hooft and David Gross. One of the highlights of the workshop will be the verdict on a famous 'Supersymmetry Wager', a bet on whether so-called supersymmetry has been discovered at CERN's Large Hadron Collider in Geneva.
