NBIA Assistant Professor Jacob Bourjaily has been awarded a prestigious Young Investigator Grant from the Villum Foundation
Jacob Bourjaily's research involves the reformulation of quantum field theory in order to make the simplicity of its predictions more manifest. Given any quantum theory, the predicted probabilities for the possible outcomes of any experiment are encoded in a function called the scattering amplitude. These predictions are notoriously hard to compute, and yet surprisingly simple in form. Making this simplicity manifest in the way these predictions are computed dramatically improves the our ability to make such predictions while exposing deep and important aspects of fundamental physics.
This grant will be used to recruit postdoctoral researchers and PhD students, further strengthening the group devoted to this research already at the NBIA.
