ERC Starting Grant to Amin Doosmohammadi
Novo Nordisk Fundation Assistant Professor Amin Doostmohammadi has been awarded an ERC Starting Grant from the European Union for his project called Physical basis of Collective Mechano-Transduction: Bridging cell decision-making to multicellular selforganisation.
With his ERC Starting Grant, Amin Doostmohammadi will combine physical modelling with biological experiments, examine the role of mechanical forces in the proliferation of cell groups and seek to formulate an integrated view on cellular decision-making that incorporates mechanics as an integral part of the process. The prestigious ERC Starting Grants are awarded based on inventive and groundbreaking research ideas and are given to exceptionally talented young researchers with between two and seven years of experience after the PhD-degrees. Amin Doostmohammadi has already established a globally recognized junior research group at NBIA centered on the new topic of Active Matter. His ERC Starting Grant will allow Amin to expand into new avenues that will combine theoretical modelling with biological experiments designed by him. The grant, of in total 1.5 million Euro will allow Amin to hire a number of post-doctoral researchers and PhD-students who will work under his guidance for the next five years.
