Niels Obers is Professor at NBIA. He did is undergraduate studies at Nijmegen University and received his PhD degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1991. He subsequently held postdoctoral positions at Bonn, Ecole Polytechnique, CERN and Nordita. During 2000-2002 he was an assistant professor at Utrecht University and moved in 2002 to NBI for an associate professor position, becoming full professor in 2012. From 2012-2018 he was deputy head of departement as well as acting head of department for a period in 2017. He has done research on conformal field theory, non-perturbative string dualiies and the dynamics of higher-dimensional black holes and branes. Recently he has been developing non-relativistic gravity, string theory and holography using non-Lorentzian geometries.
