Mauricio Bustamante is an Assistant Professor at the NBIA.  He completed his PhD at the University of Würzburg and DESY in 2014.  Following that, he was a postdoc at the Center for Cosmology and AstroParticle Physics (CCAPP) of The Ohio State University, before joining the Niels Bohr Institute in 2017.

His research is in the field of astroparticle physics, with a focus on high-energy astrophysical neutrinos and ultra-high-energy cosmic rays.  He is interested in two open issues with far-reaching implications in astrophysics and physics: what are the sources of high-energy cosmic rays, neutrinos, light, and gravitational waves — and how are these connected — and what can we learn about fundamental particle physics from astrophysical messengers with energies far above those achievable in the lab.
